Manufacturers of Approved Animal Indicators/Tags

Approved CCIA animal indicators are required to have demonstrated specific retention characteristics. In order to meet all requirement defined in CCIA’s Standards, Procedures, and Testing document, all animal indicators must pass a series of extensive trials to test visual, mechanical, physical, electrical, readability and environmental capabilities. CCIA is continuously testing tags for potential approval for use in the Canadian Cattle Identification Program. In order to promote competitiveness within the animal indicator distribution network, CCIA allows all manufacturers of animal indicators the opportunity to submit animal indicators for the program. Parties interested in manufacturing approved CCIA animal indicators (for sale to livestock operators), must submit the animal indicators for testing to ensure they meet all criteria outlined in CCIA’s Standards, Procedures, and Testing document.Manufacturers of approved animal indicators must report manufactured events to the CLTS database to indicate allocated identification numbers were manufactured as approved animal indicators. Manufacturers must also report distributed events to the CLTS database to indicate approved animal indicator identification numbers have been sold to an approved retailer/distributor of animal indicators. They must also report returned events to the CLTS database to indicate approved animal indicator identification numbers have been returned to a retailer, distributor or manufacturer (from a livestock operator, retailer or distributor).
